I understand how boys' nature is not always understood properly. But it used to be that when boys misbehaved it was men's opinion of misbehavior and men provided the consequences. Not that there wasn't female input, but maybe it wasn't proportional. Now women (wymyn?) are asserting their views and providing more consequences.
Based on the statistical correlations between negative social indicators like crime and drug addiction on the one hand, and single-parent (mother-run) families on the other, I think it's pretty obvious that kids, especially boys, tend to do much better with fathers present "providing the consequences" (as well as being positive role models).
If my comment seemed like a non-sequitur to the video, your comment seems like a non-sequitur to my thought bubble. I don't think the conversation had anything to do with whether men should, or should not be in children's lives (Obviously a good father is a good thing). I'm not placing us on opposite sides. I thought I was just adding layers to the discussion.
I see. Well, I agree that women's input is a good thing. If I'd had time I could have gone into the way women will always have an edge in the social power game because they are much better at social relations than men. "Patriarchs" are really just responsible (fatherly) men who provide the strength to back up women, who are the ones doing most of the actual governing through nuanced social communication.
Women do have that advantage in the private sphere, not sure they are actually governing. But i take your original point that fatherly men are ideal leaders of the patriarchy.

Women have been taming and civilizing men by making them responsible fathers since time immemorial.
Sure, if you call that governing 🙂
