But that is totally independent of the valid piece you wrote. My concern regarding the overall response to the incident, accepting it at face value, is that it will not sway or influence enough people in the U.S., similar to the lack of soul searching of the "average" Israeli. Someone wrote elsewhere that he thought it would have been more potentially effective if (a sincere) Bushnell did not do what he did, but did some other radical and highly public form of protest. I thought of the Berrigans et al breaking into nuclear plants. Did S. Brian Willson really cause any true changes in U.S. policy in Central America after nearly dying (he didn't intend to) on those railroad tracks? I don't know. He certainly did stop that train. And his action followed years of sustained activism and communication, by himself and many others. The current case is out of the blue, unless I'm unaware of previous confrontational actions by Bushnell. If there are some, I'd like to know.
